In March of 2011 I got the opportunity to go to the Sparrows Point Dry Docks and check out the restoration of the Constellation and the Torsk. The vessels were in for routine maintenance, repairing wood and metal, and probably some new paint. It was a dreary day with rain off and on so the photos aren’t great but it was a once in a lifetime experience.
These are really interesting photos. Not just because this is an part of these vessels we don’t normally see, but also because everything on the Constellation, from the waterline up, has been replaced. So what you get to see here is what’s left of the original wood. For the most part.
